Sensing distance you can spend on real-world slop

Rated sensing distance is a budget, and most machines spend it fast: target run-out, bracket tolerance, thermal growth, the grime layer that builds up by Friday. A sensor rated 2 mm leaves nothing in the account. The Q-series approach is to buy the budget up front — 10, 15 or 20 mm — so the sensor can sit safely back from traffic and still switch every cycle.

The three bodies share one electrical platform: the same 10–30 V DC supply window, the same four output configurations per distance rating, the same protected 150 mA output stage and LED. Standardize the wiring across a plant and vary only the body size per station — maintenance stocks fewer spares and the panel drawings never change.

Coil area grows with the housing, and reach grows with the coil: step up a body size whenever the application needs more air between sensor and target.

Typical Applications

Conveyor & Material Handling

Tracks pallets and carriers at up to 500 Hz with enough reach to clear wandering loads.

Hoppers, Gates & Doors

Confirms open/closed states on flexing steel structures where a short-range sensor would false-trip.

Limit-Switch Replacement

Non-contact end-of-travel on cranes, stackers and heavy slides — no lever, nothing to bend.

Washdown & Dusty Areas

IP67 sealing shrugs off coolant spray, washdown hoses and dust accumulation between cleanings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much sensing distance do the Q25, Q30 and Q40 give compared with barrel sensors?

The Q25 and Q30 are rated 10 or 15 mm and the Q40 reaches 15 or 20 mm on standard steel targets. For comparison, a typical flush M18 barrel senses around 5 mm and an M30 around 10 mm — so the Q40 doubles the reach of an M30 while mounting with screws on a flat face instead of a 30 mm bored hole.

When is the extra sensing distance actually useful?

Whenever the target cannot be tightly guided: pallets that wander on rollers, gates and hoppers that flex, castings with loose position tolerance, or anywhere dirt build-up forces you to mount the sensor further back. A 15–20 mm rating lets you keep a safe mechanical clearance and still switch reliably.

What are the electrical specifications?

All models run on 10–30 V DC via a 3-wire connection (brown +, blue −, black signal) with NPN or PNP output in NO or NC logic. Maximum load is 150 mA with an overload trip at 180 mA and short-circuit protection; response time is 0.5 ms with switching up to 500 Hz, except the Q40 20 mm option at 1 ms / 300 Hz. Every unit has an LED state indicator.

How rugged is the housing?

The body is PC (polycarbonate) sealed to IP67, so dust, splashing coolant and temporary immersion are within spec. The square format also survives knocks better than nut-mounted barrels: the body sits flat on the frame with fasteners through it, so an impact cannot rotate it out of alignment.

How do I pick between the three body sizes?

Work backwards from the distance you need, then the space you have. 10 mm: Q25 or Q30. 15 mm: any of the three. 20 mm: Q40 only. Where several qualify, the smaller body saves space and the larger one adds coil area and mounting robustness — on vibrating structures, the bigger footprint with bigger screws is usually worth it.

Can I use one as a safety interlock on a guard door?

No. These are standard position sensors with no safety rating — not IEC 61496-certified components — and must not be used alone for personnel protection. Use a certified safety switch or safety light curtain for guarding, and let the Q-series handle the position and presence signals around it.

What are the export terms — MOQ, samples, documentation?

Q25/Q30/Q40 variants are standard factory items. Send your model list (e.g. Q4020P1) through the contact page and sales will confirm MOQ, sample availability, pricing and lead time; certification documents for the series are available on request.
