The Plug-In Version of Our M8 Workhorse

The standard M8 series is our cable-terminated staple. The JM8 keeps the same M8×1 mounting and inductive front end but ends in a threaded quick-disconnect, following the connector convention of the whole JM family — see the JM12 and JM18/JM30 pages for the larger barrels, and the JD D6.5 for the smooth-barrel slim probe. The practical wins are maintenance speed at crash-prone points and clean pre-wired panel builds.

A detail worth noting when standardizing spares: the connector family follows body length (M8 plug on 32/45/60 mm, M12 plug on 53/70 mm), so decide your cordset stock before locking body lengths across the machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the JM8 differ from the standard M8 inductive proximity switch on this site?

The cable is gone. Our standard M8 series ships with a fixed cable (18–45 mm bodies); the JM8 ends in a threaded quick-disconnect — an M8 3-pin plug on the 32/45/60 mm bodies or an M12 4-pin plug on the 53/70 mm bodies. The sensing side is familiar M8 inductive detection, but replacement becomes unscrew-and-plug instead of cut-strip-terminate, and the grade ladder extends to 6 mm non-flush versus 4 mm on the cable series.

Which connector do I get — M8 or M12?

It follows the body length: 32, 45 and 60 mm bodies carry the M8 3-pin plug; 53 and 70 mm bodies carry the M12 4-pin plug. Choose by which cordset family your plant stocks; electrically both deliver the same 3-wire DC interface.

What sensing distances are available?

Model codes map directly: JM801 = 1 mm, JM802 = 2 mm, JM803 = 3 mm, JM804 = 4 mm, JM806 = 6 mm. 1 mm is flush-only; 4 and 6 mm are non-flush only; 3 and 6 mm live on the 60/70 mm bodies. Distances are rated on mild steel — de-rate for non-ferrous targets.

What are the electrical ratings?

10–30 V DC, 3-wire, max load 150 mA with a 180 mA overload trip and short-circuit protection; no-load current under 10 mA. Response runs 0.1–1 ms with switching 400 Hz–2 kHz by grade. Housing is stainless steel / nickel-plated brass, IP67, −25 to +70 °C, LED indicator on every unit.

Why choose a connector-type M8 over the (cheaper) cable version?

Arithmetic on downtime. If a detection point never gets damaged, the cable version wins on unit price. Where carriers jam, forks clip brackets, or coolant kills sensors yearly, a spare JM8 head restores the point in under a minute with zero wiring errors — usually worth far more than the connector premium. It also lets panel builders pre-wire and test cordsets before sensors exist on the machine.

Can the JM8 handle guard-door or safety interlock duty?

No — it is a general-purpose position sensor with no IEC 61496 / ISO 13849 certification and must not be the only thing protecting a person. Pair machine guarding with certified safety devices; the JM8 can still report door position as an ordinary status signal.

How do I order, and are samples available?

Quote via the contact page with grade, output (N/P), logic (1/2), mount (T or flush), body length and quantity — e.g. JM802N1T45 × 200. Not every grade/length combination is produced, so we confirm SKUs against the factory selection table when quoting; stocked variants can ship as samples quickly, and matching cordsets can be added to the same order.
