Why Connectorize the M12 Barrel?

M12 is the default sensor size on conveyors, packaging machines and machine tools, which is exactly why its downtime hurts most. Compared with our cable-terminated standard M12 series, the JM12 moves the wiring into a reusable cordset: commissioning becomes plug-and-test, and a sensor destroyed by a crash or coolant ingress is exchanged by hand. Plants that adopt one M12 cordset standard can service the JM8, JM12 and JM18/JM30 families with the same spare cables.

The five-grade ladder (2–10 mm) covers most M12 use cases — from flush-mounted precision stops to non-flush pallet detection — without changing barrel size or bracket drawings.

General-purpose position sensor — no IEC 61496 / ISO 13849 safety rating; never the sole means of personnel protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the JM12 differ from the standard M12 metal inductive proximity switch on this site?

The standard M12 series is cable-terminated; the JM12 ends in an M12 4-pin aviation (quick-disconnect) connector, mating to a separate cordset. Electrically they are close cousins — 10–30 V DC 3-wire, NPN/PNP, NO/NC — but the JM12 exists for plants that standardize on connectorized sensors so that commissioning is plug-and-test and replacement never involves a screwdriver inside a junction box.

What sensing grades and body lengths are offered?

Five grades — 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 mm — spread across 40, 50 and 68 mm body lengths in flush and non-flush (T) mounting. Not every grade exists in every length: the largest distances (8/10 mm) concentrate on the longer, non-flush variants. Ask for the current selection table before fixing a part number.

How do I read a JM12 part number?

JM12 + grade (02/04/06/08/10) + N or P (NPN/PNP) + 1 or 2 (NO/NC) + optional T (non-flush) + length (40/50/68). Example: JM1204N1T68 = 4 mm grade, NPN, normally-open, non-flush, 68 mm body with M12 plug.

What are the full electrical specs?

10–30 V DC supply, max load 150 mA, no-load current under 10 mA, voltage drop under 1.5 V, short-circuit protection with a 180 mA trip. Response 0.1–1 ms and switching 400 Hz–2 kHz depending on grade. Housing is stainless steel / nickel-plated brass, IP67, −25 to +70 °C, with a built-in LED.

Flush or non-flush — which should I order?

Flush if the face must sit level with surrounding metal (tight guards, machined pockets): choose from the 2/4/6 mm flush grades. Non-flush (T) if you have clearance and want reach: it unlocks the 8 and 10 mm grades on the 68 mm body. Remember non-flush faces need a metal-free zone around the tip.

Do I need a special cable?

You need an M12 4-pin female cordset; the sensor side is a standard M12 aviation thread. We recommend ordering cordsets with the sensors so pin-out and coding are confirmed as a set — the exact pin assignment is provided with the order documentation.

Safety use and purchasing details?

Not a certified safety component (no IEC 61496 / ISO 13849 rating) — use certified devices for personnel protection. For quotes: list grade, output, mount, length and quantity via the contact page; stock variants sample quickly, and we will flag any length/grade combination that needs a production run.
