Plug-In Tail, Long-Range Coil

Our cable-terminated M18/M30 three-wire series remains the straightforward pick for fixed installations. The JM version answers a different question: how do you keep a line running when big, exposed sensors occasionally get hit? With an M12 cordset staying in the cable tray, a damaged JM18/JM30 is unscrewed and replaced in well under a minute — no junction box, no wire stripping, no mislabelled cores.

Within the plug-in family, this page is the long-distance end; the JM12 and JM8 pages cover the compact barrels, and the JD D6.5 covers the slim smooth-barrel probe. All share the same quick-disconnect logic, so one cordset standard can serve a whole machine.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the JM series different from the standard M18/M30 three-wire proximity switches on this site?

The sensing barrel is comparable; the tail is not. The standard M18/M30 three-wire series is cable-terminated, while every JM18/JM30 ends in an M12 4-pin quick-disconnect connector. You buy the mating cordset once, route it permanently, and afterwards sensors swap by hand in seconds. The JM line also publishes longer non-flush grades — up to 40 mm on JM3040 — making it the longest-reach inductive option in our connector family.

What sensing distances are available on JM18 and JM30?

JM18: 5/8/12 mm flush and 8/16/20 mm non-flush. JM30: 10/15/22 mm flush and 15/25/40 mm non-flush. As with all inductive sensors, ratings assume a mild-steel target; de-rate for stainless, brass or aluminium and confirm the correction factor with the factory for marginal gaps.

How do I compose a full part number?

Base code + output + logic + optional T + length. Example: JM1805N179 = M18, 5 mm flush, NPN, NO, 79 mm body; JM3040P2T50 = M30, 40 mm non-flush, PNP, NC, 50 mm body. JM18 takes length suffix 79 or 50; JM30 takes 78 or 50.

When is the 40 mm non-flush grade the right choice?

When targets are set back from the mounting face or positioning is loose — pallet frames, gate arms, agricultural and heavy machinery. Trade-offs: the sensing face protrudes, needs a metal-free zone, and the switching frequency at 40 mm falls to about 100 Hz, so it is a presence detector rather than a high-speed counter.

What are the electrical basics?

10–30 V DC 3-wire supply, NPN or PNP output in NO or NC, short-circuit protection with a 180 mA overload trip, IP67 sealing and a built-in LED. Wire via the M12 cordset: brown +V, blue 0 V, black signal (white joins on dual-output NO+NC variants).

Are these usable in safety circuits?

Only as plain status inputs. They carry no IEC 61496 / ISO 13849 safety certification and must never be the sole means of personnel protection — that duty belongs to certified interlock switches or safety light curtains, which we also manufacture.

What about cordsets, MOQ and delivery?

Order M12 4-pin cordsets together with the sensors so connector coding and pin-out are guaranteed to match — ask the factory for the recommended cordset part numbers.
