JD Series D6.5 Connector-Type Inductive Proximity Switch
A 6.5 mm slim inductive probe that ends in an M8 or M12 plug instead of a cable — so the sensor itself becomes the fast-swap spare part.
- ⌀6.5 mm barrel fits where threaded M8 bodies cannot
- M8 3-pin plug (45/60 mm) or M12 4-pin plug (53/70 mm)
- Sensing 1–3 mm flush, 2–6 mm non-flush
- 10–30 V DC, NPN/PNP NO/NC, 150 mA, short-circuit protected
- IP67 stainless housing, −25 to +70 °C, LED indicator

Cable Tail vs Connector Tail — the Real Difference
The standard D6.5 series on this site is the cable-tail version of this probe. The JD series swaps the moulded cable for a threaded circular connector, which changes the economics of maintenance rather than the sensing: cordsets stay routed through the machine permanently, and only the sensor head is replaced when one dies. On lines where a jammed carrier occasionally shears a sensor, that is the difference between a 30-second swap and opening a junction box with a hot machine waiting.
Machine builders also use the connector tail to pre-wire panels: cordsets are run and ring-tested before the sensors are even mounted, then everything plugs together at final assembly. If you do not need either workflow, the cable version is the simpler (and slightly cheaper) buy.

Naming rule: JD6.5 + distance code + N/P + 1/2 + optional T (non-flush) + length. The 60/53/70 mm rows follow the factory naming rule; the full SKU list for those lengths is not itemised in the catalogue — confirm exact part numbers with the factory before ordering.

Typical Applications
Tight fixture sensing
The 6.5 mm smooth barrel mounts through simple drilled holes in cramped tooling.
Fast-swap production lines
Sensor heads become plug-in consumables at crash-prone detection points.
Pre-wired panel builds
Cordsets tested before sensors mount; heads plug in at final assembly.
Coolant-exposed stations
IP67 stainless housing shrugs off chips, splash and washdown-adjacent duty.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the JD series differ from the standard D6.5 proximity switch already on this site?
Same slim 6.5 mm inductive probe, different tail. The standard D6.5 series ships with a factory-moulded cable; the JD series ends in a threaded M8 (3-pin) or M12 (4-pin) circular connector, so the sensor mates to a separate cordset. That turns the sensor itself into a plug-and-play spare: a failed unit is unscrewed and replaced in seconds, with no junction box opened and no wires re-terminated.
What sensing distances are available?
Flush versions: 1, 2 or 3 mm depending on model and body length. Non-flush versions (T in the part number): 2, 4 or 6 mm. The longer 60 mm (M8-plug) and 70 mm (M12-plug) bodies carry the widest choice, including the 4 mm and 6 mm non-flush grades.
Which body/connector combination should I choose?
Pick the connector family your panel already uses. M8 3-pin cordsets pair with the 45 mm and 60 mm bodies; M12 4-pin cordsets pair with the 53 mm and 70 mm bodies. If you need the longer 3–6 mm grades, go to the 60/70 mm bodies; if mounting depth is tight, the 45/53 mm bodies are the short options in this connector line.
What are the electrical ratings?
10–30 V DC supply, 3-wire NPN or PNP output in NO or NC, maximum load current 150 mA with a 180 mA overload trip and built-in short-circuit protection. Response time runs 0.1–1 ms with switching frequency 400 Hz–2 kHz depending on the sensing-distance grade.
Is it robust enough for coolant and washdown areas?
The housing is stainless steel with a copper-nickel-plated section, rated IP67 across −25 to +70 °C, and every unit carries an LED state indicator. One practical note: overall sealing in service also depends on the mating cordset being properly torqued — an unplugged or loose connector is not IP67.
Do you publish the connector pin-out?
The pin assignment and recommended mating cordset part numbers are supplied with the order documentation rather than published here — request them from the factory together with your quotation so the cordsets you stock are guaranteed to match. This is deliberate: guessing pin-outs from generic M8/M12 conventions is a common source of miswiring.
Can these interlock a guard door, and what about ordering?
They are standard position sensors with no safety certification (not IEC 61496 / ISO 13849 rated) and must not be the sole means of personnel protection. For ordering: the 60 mm and 70 mm bodies follow a naming rule rather than a fully itemised list, so send us the distance grade, output, mount type and body length you need and we will confirm the exact SKU and lead time.
