One Set Distance — Black or White Target
Brightness-based diffuse sensors see a black part as a weak signal and a white part as a strong one, so their effective trip distance drifts with product colour. The BGS-CX61 anchors the decision to distance: reflections from inside the set range switch the output, reflections from beyond it are discarded. The result is a switching point that survives colour changeovers, glossy packaging and mixed-material batches.
The projected spot is only 2 mm, sensitivity is trimmed with a built-in 5-turn potentiometer, and the sealed IP67 PBT housing keeps the optics working through washdown splash, coolant mist and dust — places where an IP65 unit would be at its limit.
Colour-independence of the distance cutoff: black and white targets trip the output at the same point; anything beyond it is suppressed.

What makes the BGS-CX61 different from a normal small photoelectric sensor?
Its detection zone is bounded by distance rather than by reflected light intensity. Once the sensing distance is set with the 5-turn potentiometer, objects beyond it — conveyor surfaces, metal frames, rollers — are ignored by design even when they are highly reflective, and dark targets inside it are still caught.
Does target colour shift the switching point?
The switching distance stays consistent across dark and light targets, so a line running both black and white products does not need re-teaching at every colour changeover.
What is the published sensing distance?
The applicable sensing-distance range for the BGS-CX61 is still being validated and is deliberately not published here. Contact the factory with your mounting distance and target material and we will confirm suitability before you commit the design.
Which output versions exist and how is the logic selected?
BGS-CX61N gives NPN open-collector output and BGS-CX61P gives PNP. On both, the white control wire selects the logic on site: leave it unconnected for Light-ON, connect it to the blue wire for Dark-ON — no separate part number needed.
What are the electrical limits of the output stage?
Load voltage DC 26.4 V max, load current 100 mA max, leakage current 10 μA max. Supply is DC 12–24 V ±10% at under 30 mA. To drive a contactor or solenoid valve directly, add an interposing relay or choose a relay-output sensor.
How rugged is the housing?
The body is PBT with a resin lens cover, rated IP67 per IEC 60529, with operating temperature −25 °C to +55 °C and storage −40 °C to +70 °C (non-condensing). It is a 4-wire pre-wired type with a 2 m cable.
Is the BGS-CX61 a safety component?
No. It is a general-purpose detection sensor without an IEC 61496 safety certification and must not be used alone for personnel protection — use a certified safety light curtain such as the DQC series for guarding.
