JB Series Rubber Safety Edge — 37 Profiles

The profile-matching workhorse of contact protection: measure the groove on your door or platform, pick one of 37 EPDM cross-sections, and get an anti-pinch edge made to your exact length.

  • 37 cross-sections: 5-90 mm high, 6-65 mm wide
  • Trips at ≤30 N after 2-8 mm travel (catalog profiles)
  • 8.2 kΩ monitored 2-wire or plain 2/4-wire versions
  • Up to 5 edges daisy-chained per controller input
  • IP65, -20 °C to +80 °C, lengths 20-300 cm to order

Contact Protection That Fits What You Already Built

Safety edges are usually specified late — after the door, gate or platform is already designed, and often after an existing edge has worn out. That is why the JB line leads with geometry: 37 rubber cross-sections spanning 5 mm to 90 mm in height mean the edge adapts to your channel, not the other way round. Replacement buyers can match a competitor profile dimension-for-dimension; machine builders can pick the smallest section that still gives the travel they need.

Electrically the edge is deliberately simple: compressing the rubber closes a conductive chamber, producing a normally-open contact signal on a ≤24 V loop. Order the R version with the built-in 8.2 kΩ terminating resistor when a monitoring controller supervises the circuit for shorts and wire breaks, or the plain K version for unmonitored PLC inputs. Up to five edges chain onto one input — a full door frame on a single circuit.

The JB is the economy tier of our contact-protection range. When the risk assessment demands documented functional-safety figures (PFH, Category, MTTFd) or a 13 ms response with defined overtravel, step up to the JB-PSE safety contact edge; for floor-area guarding see the JT14 safety mat.

Typical Applications

Sliding & Sectional Doors

Mount along the closing edge so contact trips the stop before a pinch develops.

Lifting Platforms & Moving Tables

≤30 N trip force stops the motion on light human contact at crushing points.

Curved Gates & Contours

Conformable EPDM follows arcs from ≥55 mm radius on most profiles.

Full Door-Frame Perimeters

Daisy-chain up to 5 edges on one controller input around sides and head of the frame.

Worn-Edge Replacement

37 cross-sections make a dimensional match for most legacy edges from other brands.

Indoor & Outdoor Gates

IP65 sealing and -20 °C to +80 °C EPDM survive weather-exposed installations.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I identify a form-fit replacement for a worn safety edge from another supplier?

Measure three things on the old edge: the mounting groove or channel width, the overall profile height, and the overall width. Then match them against the JB range's 37 cross-sections (5-90 mm high, 6-65 mm wide). Because the range is unusually wide, most legacy edges from door and platform OEMs have a dimensionally matching JB profile — send us the three measurements or a cross-section photo and we confirm the profile number.

What force and travel trigger the JB edge?

Catalog-listed profiles — 32 of the 37 — switch at 30 N or less after 2-8 mm of compression. That is a light, consistent trip response appropriate for stopping a moving table, lift platform or powered door on first contact. For the five profiles without published force/travel data (JB-02, JB-04, JB-13, JB-18, JB-26), confirm figures with the factory before specifying.

What is the 8.2 kΩ resistor version for, and when do I skip it?

The R version terminates the 2-wire loop with an 8.2 kΩ / 0.25 W resistor, so a monitoring controller sees a defined quiescent resistance: a short reads near zero, a broken wire reads open, and both are detected as faults. Choose it whenever the edge is part of a supervised stop circuit. The K version (2- or 4-wire, no resistor) suits simple PLC inputs where line monitoring is not required.

Can I wire the JB edge directly to my PLC?

Yes — wiring diagrams cover direct connection to a PLC e-stop input as a normally-open contact, or normally-closed logic through an interposing relay. The signal loop is rated ≤24 V and <1 A with a 50 cm standard cable (3.5 mm diameter, 0.25 mm² copper). Up to five edges daisy-chain onto one input to guard a full door frame or platform perimeter with a single circuit.

Does the JB edge work on curved gates?

The EPDM profiles conform to curved and irregular edges. Minimum bending radius data is published for most profiles, starting from ≥55 mm and varying by cross-section; for the profiles without published radius data (JB-06, JB-16, JB-24 and JB-28 through JB-34), check with the factory before committing to a curved installation.

Is the JB series functional-safety rated?

The JB line is the economy tier: it does not publish PFH, Category, MTTFd or response-time figures. Certification documents are available on request. If your machine risk assessment requires documented functional-safety data for the edge itself, specify the JB-PSE series instead, which publishes those figures for use with a DQSRN-SR(A) safety controller.

How do I order custom lengths, and what is the MOQ?

State the profile number, wiring version (R with 8.2 kΩ resistor or K without), overall length anywhere from 20 to 300 cm, and shape (standard R or special-shape S). Each edge is made to order, so odd lengths cost nothing extra in tooling. Small trial quantities are generally workable — contact the factory for current MOQ, pricing and lead time.
