SDLD-05A TOF Laser Radar

Product Overview

The SDLD-05A TOF Laser Radar is a compact industrial obstacle-avoidance laser scanner built around a 905 nm Time-of-Flight ranging source. With a wide 270° scanning angle and measurement accuracy of ±30 mm (repeatability ≤20 mm), it is intended for AGV / AMR and RGV obstacle detection and area monitoring. Range is rated per target surface: 0.1–14 m at 90% remission and 0.1–8 m at 10% remission.

Designed for demanding factory environments, SDLD-05A features an IP54 aluminium-alloy housing, tested resistance to shock and vibration, and flexible multi-zone configuration — 16 zone groups, each with 3 editable sub-zones — switched by a 4-bit input code in step with vehicle speed or operating state.

The SDLD-05A is a perception / obstacle-avoidance LiDAR, not an IEC 61496 certified safety component; no Type, SIL or PL rating is published for it and its outputs are ordinary NPN switches, not OSSDs. Do not use it as the sole means of personnel protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

What detection range and accuracy does the SDLD-05A TOF laser radar provide?

The manufacturer's technical parameter table rates the SDLD-05A at 0.1–14 m against a 90%-reflectivity target and 0.1–8 m against a dark 10%-reflectivity target, across a 270° scanning angle, with ±30 mm measurement accuracy, ≤20 mm repeatability and 0.5° angular resolution at a 20 Hz scan rate. Size your zones on the lower figure if the objects you must detect are dark, matt or unpainted.

How many detection zones can the SDLD-05A configure?

The scanner stores 16 zone groups, each with 3 independently editable sub-zones drawn as a polygon (up to 15 vertices), a fan or a rectangle. The active group is selected by a 4-bit binary code on digital inputs IN1–IN4, so the vehicle controller can switch fields in step with speed or route section without reprogramming the sensor. Each sub-zone maps to one of the outputs OUT1–OUT3, which pull low when an obstacle enters.

Is the SDLD-05A suitable for harsh factory environments?

It has an aluminium-alloy body with a plastic cover, an IP54 rating, an operating range of −10 °C to +50 °C (storage −20 °C to +55 °C) and humidity below 85% RH without condensation, and it is tested to 196 m/s² (20 G) shock, ten times per axis, plus vibration. The ranging laser is 905 nm; the manufacturer's documentation does not state an IEC 60825-1 laser class for this model, so ask us for the laser classification in writing before specifying it for a manned area.

Can the SDLD-05A replace a SICK or Pilz safety laser scanner?

Not for safety functions. Despite the S in its name, the SDLD-05A is an obstacle-avoidance and area-detection sensor with no IEC 61496, SIL or PL certification on file, and its outputs are ordinary NPN switches rather than OSSDs. For non-safety obstacle detection and area monitoring it is a cost-effective alternative offering 270° coverage, 16 switchable zone groups and an Ethernet interface. Where a person must be protected by the scanner, specify a certified safety laser scanner instead.

What is the response time and interface of the SDLD-05A?

The datasheet lists a 50 ms hardware response time at the 20 Hz scan rate; the AGVConfigurator PC software adds an adjustable hold time and response time (each 200 ms by default) plus an object-size filter, so brief or very small intrusions can be filtered out. Connections are an Ethernet port (RJ45, UDP) for configuration and status, up to 4 NPN inputs and 4 NPN outputs (load capacity under 10 mA) for hard-wired interlocking, and a USB Type-C port for local setup.
