Product Overview
Every automated machine hides a handful of questions it must answer thousands of times a day: is the axis at home? has the tray reached the end? did a part pass? The EE-SX67 series answers them with a through-beam U-slot photomicrosensor: emitter and receiver face each other across a fixed slot, aligned at the factory, so a flag or tab breaking the beam produces a crisp, repeatable switch point with zero field alignment.
Because these sensors are designed into equipment rather than bolted on afterwards, mechanical fit matters more than raw specs. That is why the series offers eight housing shapes (EE-SX670 – EE-SX677) — different outlines, mounting orientations and cable exits — each in NPN and PNP versions. Detection logic is not even a part-number decision: wire the black lead for NO (Light-ON) or join white to brown for NC (Dark-ON), so one stocked unit serves both philosophies.
Units arrive pre-wired with 1, 2 or 3 m of cable (D1/D2/D3 suffix), ready to route straight to the controller — a deliberate fit for OEM production lines building many machines to one drawing.

Why do OEM designers default to slot (fork) sensors for in-machine detection?
Because alignment is already done. In a U-slot photomicrosensor the emitter and receiver are fixed and factory-aligned in one housing — you bolt it on and it works. On equipment with dozens of home, limit and index points, eliminating per-point beam alignment saves real assembly and service time compared with separate through-beam pairs.
How do I choose among the 8 housing shapes?
EE-SX670 through EE-SX677 differ in outline, mounting-hole orientation and beam direction, not in detection function. Pick the shape whose slot faces your flag's travel direction and whose feet match the space you have — the shape digit is independent of output type and cable length, so changing shape does not change the electrical order code logic.
Do I need to stock separate NO and NC part numbers?
No — that is a quiet cost saver of this series. Detection logic is chosen at wiring time: land the black wire for normally-open (Light-ON) behavior, or join the white wire to the brown wire for normally-closed (Dark-ON). One stocked unit covers both logic needs across your machines.
How are NPN and PNP versions coded?
No suffix = NPN (sinking), P suffix = PNP (sourcing) — e.g. EE-SX672-D1 is NPN, EE-SX672P-D1 is PNP. Every one of the 8 shapes exists in both, so mixed PLC fleets can standardize on one sensor family.
What cable options are available?

What about slot width, response time and IP rating?

Is this a safety interlock component?
No. Slot photomicrosensors are position/counting components, not IEC 61496-certified safety devices, and must not implement personnel protection. For guarding, use a certified safety light curtain such as the DQC series.
