Keep the model format DQZnn/K-H. The catalogue specification list gives 0.3–3 m for every standard model; 80 mm pitch and other special builds are made to order with a 0.3–2 m range.

Typical Applications

  • Presses / shears / press brakes: 10–30 mm suit hand protection; fast response supports shorter S-distance.
  • Robot cells & assembly fixtures: finger/palm detection with interlocked safety loop; compact to retrofit.
  • Packaging / logistics: 40–80 mm for aisle, pallet zone and presence detection.
  • General machinery: integrate with a safety relay/PLC for stop, interlock and EDM monitoring.

Safety distance reference (ISO 13855): S = K × T + C, where T is machine stopping time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What safety type / performance level does the DQZ carry?

The DQZ is a through-beam opto-electronic protective device (AOPD) — a product category designed with reference to IEC 61496 and to the machinery-safety standards ISO 13849 / ISO 13855. DAIDISIKE has not published a type classification (Type 2 / Type 4) or a performance level for the DQZ series, so none is claimed here; request the current test documentation from the factory before specifying the DQZ into a rated safety function. Where a documented Type 4 / PL e / SIL 3 device is required, use the DQT4 series. Whatever the device, pair it with a forcibly-guided safety relay or safety PLC providing EDM, and validate the complete function on the machine.

Which resolution do I choose for finger or hand protection?

Resolution K sets the smallest detectable object. Use 10/14 mm for finger protection on assembly and fixtures, 20/25/30 mm for palm and hand protection at guarded openings, and 40/80 mm for arm, body and perimeter presence detection. The DQZ offers all seven resolutions (10/14/20/25/30/40/80 mm) so one series covers most press, robot-cell and packaging tasks.

How does response time affect the ISO 13855 safety distance?

ISO 13855 gives S = K × T + C, where T includes the curtain response plus machine stopping time. A faster response lets you mount the curtain closer to the hazard while still stopping in time, saving floor space. The DQZ is catalogued at ≤ 15 ms, so use 0.015 s as the curtain's contribution to T. Always add the C intrusion term based on the chosen resolution and verify against your measured machine stopping time.

How do I wire the NPN/PNP outputs with EDM?

The DQZ uses transistor outputs with NPN or PNP signal selection, wired by two 5-core cables. Keep the two channels independent — never tie them together — and route both into a safety relay or safety PLC with external device monitoring (EDM) to detect contact welding. Select NPN (sinking) or PNP (sourcing) to match your controller; most modern European PLCs expect PNP.

Can the DQZ replace an Omron, SICK or Keyence safety light curtain?

In many cases yes, mechanically. With resolutions 10–80 mm, protective heights 50–2480 mm and an ultra-slim 17.2×30 mm front section, the DQZ fits brackets and cabling similar to common Omron, SICK deTec or Keyence units — and the 17.2 mm front face fits mounting channels that a 30 mm-square housing will not. Match resolution, protected height and output type to the curtain being replaced, confirm the required operating distance with the factory, and where the original carried a certified Type/PL rating confirm the equivalent documentation.
