DQR Waterproof Safety Light Curtain (IP68)

Waterproof safety light curtain for harsh and outdoor automation. Resolutions 10/14/20/25/30/40/80 mm and protective heights 50–2480 mm. Ordered as DQRF with the waterproof outer cover it is rated IP68; without the cover (plain DQR) it is IP65. Transistor outputs with NPN/PNP and NO/NC selection (order suffix A/B/C/D), two 5-core or two 7-core cables through an M12 waterproof connector. Detection distance and response time are not published for this series — contact the factory.

Product Highlights
  • IP68 with the DQRF cover: the F suffix adds the waterproof outer cover for immersion-grade sealing; without it the plain DQR is IP65 — order the right one for the environment.
  • M12 waterproof aviation connector: keeps the seal intact where a standard connector is the first thing to fail outdoors.
  • Solid-state outputs: transistor, NPN/PNP and NO/NC selectable by order suffix A/B/C/D; short-circuit and overload protected.
  • Simple wiring: two 5-core or two 7-core cables.
  • Widest pitch range of the waterproof series: K = 10/14/20/25/30/40/80 mm, n = 4–32, protective heights 50–2480 mm.
  • DQF-07 mounting supplied as standard: top/bottom fixing, or two-end mounting on the DQRF.

The DQR is a through-beam AOPD designed with reference to IEC 61496 and to the machinery-safety standards ISO 13849 / ISO 13855. DAIDISIKE has not published a type classification (Type 2 / Type 4) or a performance level for this series, so none is stated here — request the current test documentation from the factory before specifying it into a rated safety function, or use the DQT4 series where the rating has to be documented. The final PL/SIL of the complete safety function is validated by the integrator in any case.

Resolution & Application Guide
Resolution (K)Typical Application
10 / 14 mmFinger protection (assembly, fixtures, close-to-hazard)
20 / 25 / 30 mmPalm/hand protection (packaging, access openings)

DQR Series Detailed Specifications

Model format: DQRnn/K-H. Example: DQR06/10-50 (K=10, n=6, H=50). The 2026 catalogue lists the same table with the DQRF prefix (DQRF06/10-50) — add the F when you need the IP68 waterproof cover. Output code A/B/C/D for PNP NO / PNP NC / NPN NO / NPN NC.

Model suffix A/B/C/D for output type: PNP NO / PNP NC / NPN NO / NPN NC. Add the F after DQR (DQRF06/10-50) when you need the IP68 waterproof cover. Detection distance is not published in the DQR catalogue data — contact the factory to confirm the operating range for your span.

Typical Applications

  • Outdoor / humid lines: the DQRF's IP68 cover suits washing stations, door gates and logistics lines.
  • Presses / shears / press brakes: 10–30 mm resolutions for finger and hand protection.
  • Perimeter guarding: 40–80 mm for aisle and presence detection.
  • General machinery: integrate with a safety relay/PLC for stop, interlock and EDM monitoring.

Safety distance reference (ISO 13855): S = K × T + C, where T is machine stopping time.

Installation & Accessories

DQR installation & accessories

Standard kit: data cable, T-bolts, emitter & receiver, and the DQF-07 mounting set (top/bottom fixing; two-end mounting on the DQRF). Connector: M12 waterproof aviation plug.

Resolutions: 10/14/20/25/30/40/80 mm; choose protective height H by beams n.

Working Principle

The DQR series uses through-beam infrared photoelectric sensing to form a virtual protective field. When any beam is interrupted, the receiver switches its safety outputs to OFF and the safety relay/PLC removes motive power. Built-in self-diagnostics and EDM enhance system reliability; restart interlock ensures safe recovery after clearing the hazard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need DQR or DQRF — what is the difference, and which one is IP68?

Order the DQRF when you need IP68. The 'F' suffix denotes the added waterproof outer cover; without it the curtain is a plain DQR, rated IP65. IP68 means fully dust-tight and protected against continuous immersion, which is what wet, washdown and outdoor lines need; IP65 only covers dust and water jets. The 2026 catalogue lists all model numbers with the DQRF prefix (for example DQRF06/10-50), and the DQR version is the same model without the cover. Note that IP69K — high-pressure, high-temperature jet resistance for food and beverage plants — is a different rating again and is not claimed for this series.

What safety type / performance level does the DQR carry?

The DQR is a through-beam opto-electronic protective device (AOPD) — a product category designed with reference to IEC 61496 and to the machinery-safety standards ISO 13849 / ISO 13855. DAIDISIKE has not published a type classification (Type 2 / Type 4) or a performance level for the DQR series, so none is claimed here; request the current test documentation from the factory before specifying the DQR into a rated safety function. Where a documented Type 4 / PL e / SIL 3 device is required, use the DQT4 series.

Can the DQR replace an Omron, SICK deTec or Keyence outdoor safety light curtain?

In many cases yes, mechanically. The DQR covers the common resolutions (10/14/20/25/30/40/80 mm) with NPN/PNP transistor outputs, so it drops into the same safety loop, and the DQRF's IP68 cover plus M12 waterproof connector make it a fit where standard IP65 curtains fail outdoors. Confirm mounting length, resolution and the required operating distance against the unit being replaced, and where the original carried a certified Type/PL rating, confirm the equivalent documentation with the factory.

How do I wire the DQR outputs to a PLC or safety relay?

The DQR uses transistor outputs ordered by model suffix: A = PNP NO, B = PNP NC, C = NPN NO, D = NPN NC, with two 5-core or two 7-core cables through an M12 waterproof connector. Feed the channels into a dual-channel safety relay or safety PLC input, then route the EDM/feedback loop through the relay's forcibly-guided contacts so a welded contact is detected on restart. Choose the polarity that matches your controller's input common.

How do I calculate the minimum safety distance for the DQR?

Use ISO 13855: S = K × T + C, where K = 2000 mm/s (hand-speed constant), T is the machine stop time plus the curtain response time, and C is the intrusion factor derived from the resolution. Finer resolutions (10/14 mm finger protection) reduce C, allowing the curtain to be mounted closer to the hazard. The DQR response time is not published in the catalogue data — obtain the confirmed figure from the factory before you calculate T. Our ISO 13855 calculator handles the rest of the math.

Which resolution should I choose for finger, hand or body protection outdoors?

Pick by the smallest body part that can reach the hazard: 10–14 mm for finger protection, 20–30 mm for hand/palm protection, and 40–80 mm for arm or body presence and perimeter guarding. The DQR covers 10/14/20/25/30/40/80 mm, so one waterproof series handles presses, washdown stations and outdoor aisle protection.
