MK Economy Safety Light Curtain (ESPE)

Cost-effective presence sensing safety device for general machinery and automation cells. Slim 25×23 mm body with resolutions 10/14/20/40 mm and protective heights of 70–7960 mm (up to 200 beams); standard detection distance 0.3–3 m (0.3–6 m as a special build); typical response time ≤ 15 ms. Transistor outputs with NPN/PNP signal selection, 3-core or 5-core wiring.

Product Highlights
  • Up to 200 beams — protective heights from 70 mm to 7960 mm from a single economy pair.
  • ≤15 ms response shortens the ISO 13855 safety distance while maintaining protection.
  • 0.3–3 m standard detection distance, 0.3–6 m as a special build; status LEDs for power/blocked states ease troubleshooting.
  • Slim 25×23 mm body — the smallest section in the range — with 3-core or 5-core wiring.
  • Mounting: DQCA-01/02/03 plus MK-01 (side fixing) and MK-02 (top/bottom).
  • Through-beam AOPD designed with reference to IEC 61496 and the machinery-safety standards ISO 13849 / ISO 13855; combine with a certified safety relay/PLC.

No type class (Type 2 / Type 4) or performance level is published for the MK series, nor a confirmed supply voltage, IP rating, operating temperature or housing material — none of these are stated on this page. Contact the factory for the confirmed values, or use the DQT4 series where a documented rating is required.

Resolution & Application Guide
Resolution (K)Typical Application
10 mm / 14 mmFinger protection (assembly, fixtures, close-to-hazard stations)
20 mmPalm protection (packaging, access openings)
40 mmHand/arm or body presence (aisles, zone guarding)

Protective height H = (n − 1) × K. Overall length L = P + H + J + 20 (10 mm allowance at each end). P/J depend on resolution; see spec tabs.

Standard detection distance is 0.3–3 m; 0.3–6 m is a special build — state which you need when ordering. Keep the model format MK{beams}-{pitch}-{height}NA, e.g. MK08-10-70NA.

Typical Applications

  • Presses / shears / press brakes: 10–20 mm resolutions suit finger and hand protection; the ≤15 ms response enables a shorter safety distance.
  • Assembly fixtures & robot periphery: finger/palm detection with interlocked safety loop; easy maintenance.
  • Packaging / logistics: 40 mm and above for aisle and presence detection.
  • General machinery: integrate with a safety relay/PLC for stop, interlock and EDM monitoring.

Safety distance reference (ISO 13855): S = K × T + C, where T is machine stopping time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What resolution should I choose for finger or hand protection?

Pick resolution by what you are guarding. 10 mm and 14 mm give finger protection at close-to-hazard stations; 20 mm covers palm/hand protection; 40 mm suits hand-arm or body presence in aisles and zone guarding. Finer 14 mm detection follows the common finger-protection threshold used with ISO 13855 safety-distance calculations.

What is the detection distance of the MK light curtain?

The standard MK covers 0.3–3 m between emitter and receiver; 0.3–6 m is available as a special build. State which one you need when ordering, and allow margin for dust, alignment drift and ageing rather than mounting at the limit of the class.

How do I wire the outputs — NPN or PNP?

The MK uses transistor outputs with an NPN/PNP signal selection, wired by 3-core or 5-core cable. PNP (sourcing) is standard for most modern PLCs and safety relays. Keep the channels independent — never tie them together — and route them through a certified safety relay or safety PLC with EDM feedback.

Is the MK a Type 4 / PL e device on its own?

No rating is claimed. The MK is an economy through-beam AOPD designed with reference to IEC 61496 and to the machinery-safety standards ISO 13849 / ISO 13855, intended to be combined with a certified safety relay or safety PLC to form the protective function. DAIDISIKE has not published a type classification or performance level for the MK series — request the current test documentation from the factory, or specify the DQT4 series where a documented Type 4 / PL e / SIL 3 rating is required.

Can the MK replace an Omron, SICK or Keyence finger-protection light curtain?

In many general-machinery cells, mechanically yes. The MK matches common resolutions (10/14/20/40 mm) with through-beam infrared operation and NPN/PNP transistor outputs, so it can serve as a cost-effective alternative to SICK deTec, Omron F3SG or Keyence units — and it reaches 200 beams, for protective heights up to 7960 mm. Match resolution, protective height H and response time to the original, and where the original carried a certified Type/PL rating confirm the equivalent documentation with the factory.
